Photo of Stonyhurst & the Lakes by N Birkby On Saturday 13th August a group of Fell Walkers visited Stonyhurst College near Clitheroe, Lancashire. They were treated to a conducted tour round the College, starting in the original Elizabethan private house and moving through the nineteenth century neo-Gothic extensions to the beautiful Chapels and the ultra modern libraries. A fascinating insight into the opportunities of the students of this famous Catholic public school founded in this country by the Jesuits in 1794. The tour was complemented by a very pleasant meal in the local Bayley Arms, a refuge of many a student I am sure.
